BON-NETS found its way into my home through a love for art and a shared belief in radical imagination.

When I first met Kamari Branch - a teacher, filmmaker and visual artist - and read her independent film script, I was instantly hooked. The world of the film was unapologetically Black, abstract, and full of sound and color.

Opening my home -a place I have lovingly and carefully crafted - as a set wasn’t just about providing a location — it was about offering space for a vision to stretch, breathe, and become real.

As set decorator, I worked to help animate the environment in ways that felt alive and intentional. The space needed to hold experimentation, texture, and movement while supporting the emotional rhythm of the film. Every object, color, and placement became part of the storytelling — not background, but participant.

Watching the actors, crew, and creative energy transform the space was electric. The home shifted into something else entirely, carrying the pulse of collaboration, radiating joy, intimacy, and creative kinship.

What made this project especially meaningful was the process itself. Being inside a creative portal where artists problem-solve together, imagine beyond limits of funding or resources, and lean fully into one another’s talents is where I feel most at home. BON-NETS was not about perfection. It was about trust, play, and the courage to build something vibrant and beautiful together.

This project stands as a reminder of what’s possible when artists open their doors — literally and figuratively — and create from abundance rather than scarcity. BON-NETS is bold, experimental, and being part of its making is an ever-present joy.
