This project began with a single room and unfolded into a home story.

Jamelle Foster-Paige initially reached out to refresh a guest bedroom, looking for something modern, comfortable, and inviting. As the process evolved, so did the vision. I was presented with an opportunity to reimagine space — first transforming a bedroom for her daughter Charlotte, an imaginative and refreshingly forthright eight-year-old at the time - and later a second project - a guest room turned Lux Lounge for hosting and rest for the entire family.

Charlotte’s room was designed as a space that could breathe and grow with her. I listened closely as she shared her ideas, favorite colors, and feelings about what her room should hold. The design honors her joy for colorful lights, Pokemon cards, fuzzy textures, and craft-making - while anticipating her future — a room that feels playful without being porcelain, expressive and expansive without being confining. Materials, furnishings, and layout were chosen to evolve alongside her, carrying her from childhood into young adulthood with grace.

Several months later, we returned to alchemize the guest bedroom into a lush yet chill zone. Drawing inspiration from a wallpaper Jamelle loved and the family’s desire for comfort and storage, the space became layered, relaxed, and vibrant. Through custom DIY elements, thoughtful sourcing, and hands-on installation, the lounge emerged as a space that feels both elevated and lived-in — a place to unwind after a long day, to hold various storage needs, and to provide a restorative space for guests.

Across both rooms, the work was rooted in collaboration, flexibility, and trust. This project reflects what’s possible when design centers listening — to adults, to young people, and to the quiet needs of a home — resulting in spaces that feel personal, enduring, and full-bodied.
