This celebration was built on sensory feeling.

Traci Bhagat’s birthday party unfolded in her spacious backyard and was envisioned as a soulful, intergenerational love letter to Black music, art, and freedom. Here the spirit of the 70s met the cool of the 90s, inspired by her aunt’s iconic presence on the 1971 cover of The Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain album and the cosmic cool of Erykah Badu’s Baduism. From the very beginning, the goal was to create a space that felt inspiring, verdant, and deeply intuitive — a place where people could lounge, dance, connect, and simply be.

My role was to translate that vision into an environment that vibed out loud. We layered African fabrics, lights, antiques, and plants to transform her backyard into a living, breathing terrarium. Lounge seating areas invited conversation, while snake plant-lined pathways and glowing lanterns guided guests throughout the space. String lights, blankets, pillows, and curated installations created warmth and intimacy, grounding the celebration in peace, love, and deep grooves in the garden. The soundscape — DJ-led music, laughter, and dancing rhythms — activated the garden fully, turning the environment into a sensory experience rather than a backdrop.

This was not just a party; it was a carefully orchestrated moment of joy. From painting kit stations and a blow-up cinema screen to a catered food tent and mainstage setup, every element was designed to encourage creativity, movement, and collective flow. The result was an evening that felt both effortless and deeply held — where Traci’s vision came alive through color, rhythm, and shared presence.
