HOME was made through deep listening.
Listening to the composition, to the vision, to the intuitive environment, to what wanted to emerge rather than what was scripted. As Director, Videographer, Editor, Photographer, and Voice Actor on HOME, Maurice Leoni-Osion’s radio theater project, I entered a creative partnership rooted in trust, improvisation, and radical openness.
From the beginning, Maurice leaned fully into the possibilities of the moment — his emotive music and performance guiding the work as much as the camera did.
We developed the visual story as we went along, allowing expression, movement, and feeling to lead. Scenes unfolded through instinct and experimentation: zipping through thrift stores to find costumes and props that felt right rather than perfect, working with the natural space of downtown Richmond’s Brown’s Island as collaborators, and letting sound, silence, and image speak to one another. There was no rigid blueprint — only a shared commitment to making something honest, sincere, and alive.
The process was wildly freeing. Trusting the vibes meant trusting each other — believing that the story would reveal itself through presence rather than control. As the visuals took shape, so did the emotional architecture of the film, weaving together memory, futurity, longing, and displacement. My work across image-making, editing, and voice became a way of diving fully into the world Maurice was building — amplifying its textures, tensions, and quiet revelations.
HOME is ultimately a meditation on belonging, refuge, and the slippery line between sanctuary and confinement. Being part of its creation affirmed what I return to again and again: when artists commit to trust, curiosity, and collective imagination, the work becomes more than a project.
It becomes a frequency you can feel — one that asks not where home is, but how we listen for it and belong more deeply within what we manifest.
